MDS courses
Post graduate training is for three years in the concerned specialty. Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) is offered in the following subjects -
Periodontics:
The branch of dentistry that deals with the replacement of missing teeth and related mouth or jaw structures by bridges, dentures, or other artificial devices
Prosthodontics:
Medicine / Dentistry) (functioning as singular) the branch of dentistry concerned with diseases affecting the tissues and structures that surround teeth Also called periodontology
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery:
Oral and Maxillofacial surgery is surgery to correct a wide spectrum of diseases, injuries and defects in the head, neck, face, jaws and the hard and soft tissues of the oral and maxillofacial region. It is a recognized international surgical specialty and it is one of the nine specialties of dentistry (recognized as a medical specialty in certain parts of the world, such as the UK).
Conservative Dentistry & Endodontics:
Endodontics is one of the dental deals with the tooth pulp and the tissues surrounding the root of a tooth. Endodontists perform a variety of procedures including root canal therapy, endodontic retreatment, surgery, treating cracked teeth, and treating dental trauma. Root canal therapy is one of the most common procedures. If the pulp (containing nerves, arterioles, venules, lymphatic tissue, and fibrous tissue) becomes diseased or injured, endodontic treatment is required to save the tooth.
Orthodontics & Dentofacial Orthopaedics:
Orthodontics is the first specialty of dentistry that is concerned with the study and treatment of malocclusions (improper bites), which may be a result of tooth irregularity, disproportionate jaw relationships, or both. Orthodontic treatment can focus on dental displacement only, or can deal with the control and modification of facial growth. In the latter case it is better defined as "dentofacial orthopedics". Orthodontic treatment can be carried out for purely aesthetic reasons with regards to improving the general appearance of patients' teeth. However, there are orthodontists who work on reconstructing the entire face rather than focusing exclusively on teeth
Oral Pathology & Microbiology:
Oral pathology is the specialty of dentistry and pathology which deals with the nature, identification, and management of diseases affecting the oral and mouth disease refers to the diseases of the mouth .The mouth is an important organ with many different functions. It is also prone to a variety of medical and dental disorders.The American Dental Association uses the term "oral and maxillofacial pathology", and describes it as "the specialty of dentistry and pathology which deals with the nature, identification, and management of diseases affecting the oral and maxillofacial regions. It is a science that investigates the causes, processes and effects of these diseases
Community Dentistry:
Community Dentistry is defined as the branch of dentistry which is practiced in relation to population and group, which drives from epidemiology an awareness of service required to organize the application of these services for the benefit of the population.Preventive and Community dentistry forms the basis of dental health care services and holds the key for developing awareness about the social aspects of the profession and the responsibilities towards the community among all those who are engaged in this profession.
Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry:
Pediatric Dentistry (formerly Pedodontics/Paedodontics) is the branch of dentistry dealing with children from birth through adolescence
